## Methodology Documentation

### **How Prices Are Calculated:**

1. **Retail Price Research**
   - Source: Official brand websites (Hermès, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton)
   - Verification: Public price lists from authorized retailers
   - Update Frequency: Quarterly (brands update prices 1-2x per year)

2. **Secondary Market Premium**
   - Source: Baghunter Handbag Index (industry standard)
   - Source: Christie's/Sotheby's auction results (public records)
   - Calculation: Average of last 12 months of secondary sales / retail price
   - Formula: `Current Estimate = Retail Price × Secondary Premium`

3. **Historical Price Data**
   - 2015-2023: Documented retail price increases from brand archives
   - 2024-2025: Current market estimates based on recent sales trends
   - Verification: Cross-referenced with auction house results

### **Last Sale Data:**

All "Last Sale" information comes from:
- **Christie's/Sotheby's**: Public auction records (100% verifiable)
- **Vestiaire Collective**: Listed sales on public platform
- **The RealReal**: Public marketplace transactions
- **Fashionphile**: Online marketplace listings
- **Rebag**: Public resale platform

⚠️ **Note:** We do NOT have direct API access to these platforms. Last sale data is manually researched from publicly visible listings and auction results.

   - Current: Database is empty (crawlers encountering errors)
   - Future: Active scraping from 1stDibs, Vestiaire, etc.

5. **Fractional Ownership**
   - Current: Hypothetical share calculations
   - Future: SEC-compliant tokenized ownership

1. Crawlers are running (`luxvault-ingestion`, `luxvault-deal-detector`)
2. But encountering errors on every cycle
3. Likely issues:
   - Website blocking/rate limiting
   - Selector changes on target sites
   - Network/firewall issues
   - API authentication problems

✅ **Policy Requirement:** "LUXVAULT will NEVER use fabricated, fake, or made-up data. All data must be clearly sourced and labeled."
