How we source

we begin with the mills. not all mills are equal. some are known for their precision, others for their patience. we visit them often, or they send us samples. we ask for nothing that does not meet our standards. the process is slow, deliberate. we do not rush. we do not compromise.

the mills

we work with mills that understand the weight of a thread. they are not large, but they are precise. they are not new, but they are reliable. they produce in small batches, not by the truckload. we prefer this. it means fewer mistakes, fewer compromises. we visit them in person, or we trust their catalogs. we do not accept anything that feels rushed.

trade-only catalogs

we receive catalogs that are not for sale to the public. they are for those who know what they are looking for. these catalogs are not flashy. they are quiet, understated. they contain only what is necessary. we scan them carefully. we do not take what is easy. we take what is right. we do not collect. we curate.

criteria for inclusion

substrate: we require a base that is neither too soft nor too rigid. it must hold its shape, but not resist the hand.

repeat: we prefer repeats that are not too frequent, not too sparse. they must exist without demanding attention.

washfastness: we test every sample. we do not accept anything that fades under the light of a room, or under the touch of a hand.

these are not rules, but guidelines. we do not measure in numbers. we measure in feeling. we do not count. we choose. we do not take what is popular. we take what is lasting.

what gets cut

what does not meet our standards is discarded. not without care, but without hesitation. we do not keep what is too loud, too busy, too fragile. we do not keep what is too heavy, too light, too uncertain. we do not keep what is not true to itself. we do not keep what is not made with care.

we do not keep what cannot be touched. we do not keep what cannot be felt. we do not keep what cannot be trusted. we do not keep what is not made to last. we do not keep what is not made to be seen. we do not keep what is not made to be lived with.

we do not keep what does not belong. we do not keep what is not made with the same patience, the same quiet, the same care. we do not keep what is not made with the same hands, the same minds, the same time. we do not keep what is not made with the same purpose.
