# Long Beach CPRA Request — Restaurant Permit Data

Dear Long Beach City Clerk and Bureau of Environmental Health,
Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (Government Code §§ 7920.000
et seq., particularly § 7922.535 requiring response within 10 calendar
days), I respectfully request electronic copies of the following records
maintained by the Long Beach Department of Health & Human Services,
Bureau of Environmental Health:
1. Current inventory of all ACTIVE food-facility permits, including for
each facility:
- DBA / facility name
- Street address (street, city, ZIP)
- Permit ID / facility identifier (your stable internal key)
- Permit type (restaurant, market, mobile food, caterer, etc.)
- Permit issue date
- Geocoded latitude/longitude, if maintained
2. Inspection history for the past three (3) years, including for each
inspection:
- Facility ID (matching #1 above)
- Inspection date
- Numeric score, if recorded
- Letter grade, if assigned
- Inspection type / service description
- Program status (active / inactive at time of inspection)
3. If your office publishes related violation records, the corresponding
violation detail keyed to inspection ID.
I am happy to receive these records in CSV, Microsoft Excel, JSON, or
any other electronic format your office can produce most easily. If a
direct download URL exists on a Long Beach open-data portal, that path
is fine as well.
Going forward, I would also appreciate guidance on whether your office
publishes a recurring (monthly or quarterly) bulk export of this data,
or if a future request would be required for refreshed copies.
The purpose of this request is to populate a free, non-commercial public
directory of Los Angeles–area restaurants that already includes the
LA County Department of Public Health Environmental Health dataset
(36,000+ facilities). Long Beach operates an independent health
department and is therefore not included in the County's published data.
This directory will properly attribute the City of Long Beach as the
source and link back to your inspection records where applicable.
Per Government Code § 7922.575, I agree to pay reasonable duplication
fees if any apply. Please let me know the estimated cost before
processing if it exceeds $50.

**Follow-up cadence (per CPRA timing rules):**
- **Day +10**: If no acknowledgment, polite follow-up to City Clerk citing § 7922.535. Most departments respond within this window even if the actual records take longer.
- **Day +14**: If only an acknowledgment but no records or extension notice, follow up.
- **Day +24** (10 + max 14-day extension under § 7922.535(b)): If still no records, escalate to the City Attorney's Office (cao@longbeach.gov) and reference Public Records Act compliance.
**If they refuse or delay:**
- File an addendum noting CPRA's reading-room and electronic-format obligations under § 7922.575 and § 7922.580.
- The dataset is unambiguously a public record (food permit + inspection results are statutorily public per Cal. Health & Safety Code § 113953.4).
